Is SEO as easy as it sounds?

Search Engine Optimization is the phrase on most website developer’s lips. There’s an enormous body of work available on the net, but it can be confusing for many readers not au fait with the terminology.

Sometimes you find something that’s written in plain English and seems to hit the nail on the head.

One such article I recently found by Keith Robinson from Lifehacker. (http://lifehacker.com/software/seo/getting-to-done-seo-made-easy-138429.php). It does a good job at summing up a lot of the key points about SEO. These points in an abbreviated form are as follows:

  • Lead with good content- frequently update content and make sure it is good content to have people wanting to link back to it.
  • Research your keywords- there are many free keyword tools out there to help you find the perfect keywords to use throughout your site.
  • Provide good clear titles- make them exactly what your page is about and make sure they are titled correctly (<H1> headers).
  • Don’t use splash pages or Flash- search engine crawlers do not like images or animation so tag properly if you have to use them (alt tags).
  • Use Robot.txt- make sure you learn how to direct the spiders through your site by blocking them from seeing some pages and steering them to others.
  • Code your pages with standard, clean and semantic markup- make your code easy as the engines love simple code. Create mark-up with proper tags, making clear and proper information a priority.
  • Don’t get tricky- there is a lot of bad stuff out there so make sure you stay to the proper (white hat) ways of doing things or you might get burned.
  • Be patient- success isn’t found within one single part of SEO and not over night. Keep trying and your page ranks will get better.

Leading Geelong based business Geelong Hair Removal recently required a user-friendly interactive web solution using Joomla Content Management Software. The site needed to supply clear information about the company’s services in a way that made it easy for new customers to respond and request more information.

Great Alpine Valleys Branding Guide

The newly created brand for NE Victoria’s Alpine Shire required a comprehensive Branding Guide for all stakeholders. After extensive attitudinal research and focus groups held throughout metropolitan Melbourne and the region we developed the Branding Guide which we launched late last year in Bright. The Guide was made available to all involved tourism and hospitality stakeholders in hard copy as well as an electronic format via a suitably branded USB stick.
